My friend has recently reconnected with me after a long absence by inviting me to a celebration of life for his best friend, a tattoo artist.  We've met a few times since then.  His life is going well.  He is engaged, has a comfortable place to live, feels like he has found his place in the world.  But it hasn't always been that way, and those times have left their mark.  

I respect that through it all my friend never forgot that he is made in the image of God.  He never lost his dignity.  Imago Dei.
