This is the story of two young people, approximately the same age. One is still clearly a child carrying his floaty toy, firmly in the grasp of and in the shadow of his adult figure, probably his grandfather. The other is independent and responsible, wanting to be more grown up than her biological age, taking responsibility for her younger sibling.
